Top 10 Halloween Movies

We all love a good Halloween movie during the middle of the night, or on Friday the 13th to really get into the holiday spirit. But have you ever thought about what the best movies are to watch during this Halloween season? Maybe not, but here are the top ten.

10 - Casper

At number 10 is the loveable classic known as Casper. Made and produced in 1995, by Brad Silberling, it is a lovely story about how a young girl and her father, an afterlife therapist, move into a mansion to get rid of wicked spirits and get met with a friendly young ghost named Casper. The movie follows a love story between Casper and the young girl named Kat Harvey as well.

9 - Nightmare before Christmas

Number 9 goes to another classic, Nightmare before Christmas. The classic that we can’t decide whether it’s Christmas or Halloween. This story, created by Tim Burton in 1993, is about Jack Skellington, or known as the “Pumpkin King”, and he oversees getting together the town’s annual Halloween traditions. When Jack visits another holiday, he realizes that Halloween just isn’t enough. But when Santa Claus gets taken by Lock, Shock, and Barrel, Jack and Sally have to work to get him back.

8 - Halloweentown

Next is Halloweentown. This movie created by Duwayne Dunham in 1998 is about a little girl named Marnie, who on her 13th Halloween, learns she is a witch by her grandma. When their grandma leaves town, Marnie and her 2 siblings decide to follow her and end up in Halloweentown, a place for monsters, ghouls, and other wicked sorts. Not long afterward, her grandma gets captured, and Marnie has to fight off villains and monsters to save her.

7 - Terrifier

A lucky number 7 is a newer scare show, Terrifier. Made by Damien Leone in 2016, this film is about a killer clown hunting partygoers on Halloween. When he targets a group containing the main victims, Tara Heyes and Victoria Heyes. As they struggle to survive with Art the Clown on the loose, they endure pain and trauma and still have to escape the clown.

6 - Friday the 13th

Number 6 goes to the well-known movie, Friday the 13th. Made by Sean Cunningham in 1980, is a horror movie about a group of camp counselors trying to reopen a summer camp called Crystal Lake, which has a grim past, and are stalked by a mysterious killer. In 1957, a young boy named Jason drowns in a lake near Camp Crystal Lake. The next year, two counselors are murdered.

5 - IT

Halfway through the movies, number 5 is IT. The movie adaptation of the Stephen King book is about a group of kids called the “Losers Group” is in a town with a kid-eating clown named Pennywise, who lives in the sewers. When one day, Georgie is riding his bike home and gets led to the sewer and is killed by Pennywise. When the group discovers this, they go on a journey to find their friend and save themselves.

4 - Get Out

Number 4 is Get Out. Starting the movie off, we have 26-year-old, Chris Washington, goes to New York for a weekend getaway. As Chris heads up their Logan, his girlfriend's brother, says he wants a photoshoot. Chris agrees, but when the camera flashes, Logan goes hysterical and ends up yelling for Chris to get out. After a party bid and a photo swap, Chris ends up in a chair in Rose’s basement talking about how they were going to switch his brain with a white person’s one.

3 - Us

The third-place spot goes to Us. This 2019 film is about the Wilson’s, a happy loving family. When they head to a beach one summer too mourn their grandmother’s death. That same beach years ago caused the wife, Adelaide, some serious trauma. After setting in, the family meets face-to-face with themselves. They each go off with their doppelgangers and eventually catch themselves escaping trying to save their lives. When they crash at their friend's house, they see they also have doppelgangers, and it becomes known to them that the doppelgangers are trying to kill the human population. After a series of fights the family escapes only to find out that Adelaide’s twin, Red, was Adelaide all along.

2 - Hocus Pocus

The runner up goes to Hocus Pocus. This movie made by Kenny Ortega in 1993 is about 3 witches, the Sanderson sisters, and their addiction to “drink” the souls out of children to stay young. When they get sentenced to die, they put a curse that if a virgin lights the magic candle, they will live again. Well, someone does, Max. And he and his crush must fight off the witches to save his little sister Danny from dying. In the end the witches make the same curse as they are killed again until another virgin lights the candle.

1 - Halloween

And the top movie is Halloween. This thriller classic by John Carpenter, is about Micheal Myers, who has done some rough things in the past, such as killing his sister at the age of 6. Years later he stalks a young teenager, Laurie. Laurie is just a normal girl with friends, but since Micheal knows this, he aims for her friends and then her. Laurie must go through a series of events such as mourning her friend's death, fighting a serial killer, and trying to survive.
