Teaching with Passion: How Ms. Corcelles Brings Hispanic Culture to Life

Spanish is spoken by over 500 million people across the globe. But the language is not the most valuable thing from these countries. The culture has influenced the progress of history and helped shaped the world we know today. The U.S has over 50 million Spanish speakers, which makes it the 2nd largest population of Spanish speakers in the world.
It is important for you, as a U.S citizen, to not only try to learn Spanish, but also surround yourself with the Hispanic culture! Having a teacher who is passionate about their job is especially important, but when it comes to Ms. Corcelles, she makes sure you feel excited and passionate about learning the Spanish culture.
Since 2017, Ms. Corcelles has been a big contributor to George Jenkins High School, where she serves as the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teacher, and as a Spanish teacher. She goes above and beyond for her students, and it extends beyond the classroom, as she is currently in her second year sponsoring the National Spanish Honors Society.
Ms. Corcelles has been recognized for her amazing contributions to the school with prestigious awards. In 2016, she was honored as the School Related Employee of the Year, and shortly after in 2021, she achieved the title of Teacher of the Year. These awards truly show how much of an amazing teacher, staff, and role model to our school.
Ms. Corcelles’ favorite things about teaching:
1. Watching students grow academically and personally. Being a part of their journey and seeing the impact we make in their lives.
2. Forming meaningful relationships with students Guiding and mentoring them, creating a positive, lasting impact on their development.
3. Knowing that I am shaping future generations gives me a sense of purpose. Our work can influence students in ways that may extend beyond the classroom.
4. Helping students realize their potential, providing them with the tools and confidence to pursue their dreams and aspirations is the most rewarding award!
Ms. Corcelles finds joy in her role as an educator, stating, “I love my job, and I love being an Eagle!” She takes pride in her ability to inspire and support her students, helping them reach their full potential. She truly is an amazing role model to our Hispanic community.
